PRODUCCIÓN OVINA AGROECOLÓGICA EN URUGUAY

HACIA EL DESARROLLO DE LA PRODUCCIÓN OVINA AGROECOLÓGICA EN LA REGIÓN METROPOLITANA URUGUAYA. UNA EXPERIENCIA DE ARTICULACIÓN Y CONSTRUCCIÓN DE CONOCIMIENTO AGROECOLÓGICO LOCAL.

Resumen: En la Región Metropolitana uruguaya ha aumentado en el número de agricultores con

ovinos. Este proceso es apoyado por organizaciones de agricultores familiares como Comisión

Nacional de Fomento Rural (CNFR), con la implementación de un Fondo Rotatorio Ovino y

escasos apoyos gubernamentales. Siendo una zona con grandes problemas socioambientales y

poca experiencia con ovinos, surgió la necesidad de articular entre CNFR y la Red de

Agroecología del Uruguay, junto con espacios de la Universidad de la República y otras

instituciones de investigación, buscando fortalecer y construir emprendimientos asociativos para la

producción y comercialización de ovinos, así como la generación de conocimiento local sobre el

manejo agroecológico de dichos sistemas. El objetivo de este trabajo es relatar y reflexionar sobre

las experiencias organizativas y proyectos que confluyen en este proceso, abordando aspectos

positivos, dificultades y potencialidades de la articulación entre quienes se vinculan a la

producción agroecológica de ovinos en ésta Región.

Abstract: In the Uruguayan Metropolitan Region there has been an increase in the number of

farmers with sheep. This process is supported by family farmers organizations such as the

Comision Nacional de Fomento Rural (CNFR), with the implementation of a Rotatory Sheep Fund

and few government support. As an area with great socio-environmental problems and little

experience with sheep, the need arose between CNFR and the Red de Agroecologia del Uruguay,

together with areas of the University of the Republic and other research institutions, seeking to

strengthen and build associative ventures for the production and commercialization of sheep, as

well as the generation of local knowledge on the agroecological management of such systems.

The objective of this work is to relate and reflect on the organizational experiences and projects

that come together in this process, addressing positive aspects, difficulties and potentials of the

articulation between those who are linked to the agroecological production of sheep in this Region.
